KZN VOLLEYBALL HOSTS U19 SELECTION TOURNAMENT

The Tongaat Sports Centre was a-buzz with volleyball activity when KZN Volleyball hosted a tournament to select its U19 girls and boys teams for the upcoming National Junior Tournament (IPT).

The national event will be staged in Seshego, north west of the city of Polokwane in the Limpopo Province from 11 to 15 July. The competition in the Limpopo Province promises to be intensely contested as Volleyball South Africa will deploy its selectors to pencil in names of prospective candidates for the South African U19 girls’ and boys’ teams. The SA teams will participate in the Region 5 Games scheduled to take place in Malawi in December this year.

Paying attention to detail to create a conducive playing environment at the Tongaat venue, KZN Volleyball’s newly elected President, Aadil Khan strategically placed KZN Volleyball and the KZN Sports Confed branding around the courts to replicate a national competition set up. In addition, FIVB International Referee, Sishle Gumede was put in charge to oversee the standard of refereeing and  making sure that there were no delays in the commencement of matches.

Further Khan provided lunch packs for all the participants. A food stall was set up at the entrance of the playing venue for the convenience of the many spectators who spent the day at the Tongaat Sports Centre supporting the youngsters.

‘’ Despite the two -year break in school sport activity the enthusiasm and the high skills levels shown by the youngsters was encouraging for the KZN Province,’’ said Aadil Khan.

Khan went on to say that given the strength of the selected squad he was confident that KZN Volleyball will defend its National U19 title in Polokwane.
