DELOSHEN VALAITHAM GRACES THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE

Greenbury Secondary School youngster, fifteen -year -old Deloshen ‘’Trevino’’ Valaitham will be representing South Africa at the 2022 FIVB U19 Boys’ World Beach Volleyball Championship taking place in Turkey from 14 to 18 September.
Deloshen’s love for volleyball blossomed after watching his dad, Rowan plying his trade with KZN’s elite teams, Atlanta and WB Dolphins. ‘’My dad has been my inspiration over the years. I went the extra few kilometres to follow in my dad’s footsteps as a power hitter,’’ said Deloshen.
He went on to say that he set his sights on eventually representing his province like his dad, who represented KZN in the u21 and senior divisions at VSA’s National Inter-Provincial Tournaments (IPT) in the 1990’s.
With his dad as his personal coach, ‘a star was born’ as Deloshen’s skill levels superseded those of his primary school teammates making him an automatic choice to captain his school teams in all competitions.
With two of his older brothers by his side, the 15-year-old Deloshen joined the senior men’s team, Aqua Darshan Galaxy, a team fully funded by its owner, Logan Naicker, the CEO of Aqua Darshan (Pty) Ltd. Currently Aqua Galaxy is in the top 3 of the log and is set to clinch the top spot.
In July 2022 Deloshen captained the KZN u17 team in the National Schools Volleyball Championship in Cape Town. His sublime performance earned him the accolades of best server and best attacker of the national championship. His rocket service and thunderous attacks not only put fear in his opponents but also earned him their respect as a player destined to reach his dream of representing South
Africa in the international arena. Riding on the crest of the waves nothing was going to damper his pursuit of excellence in his sport of choice.
Recently at VSA’s Junior (u19) IPT staged in Polokwane, Limpopo in July 2022, Deloshen’s reputation as ‘’no nonsense’’ power attacker drew large crowds of spectators whenever the KZN u19 Boys’ team locked horns with their opponents.
It came as no surprise when Deloshen scooped the best server and most valuable player (MVP) awards and a place in the SA U19 team for the Region 5 Games scheduled to take place in Malawi in December 2022.
In the mean- time the youngster made an effortless transition from the indoor format of the game to beach volleyball. Volleyball South Africa (VSA) did not hesitate in choosing Deloshen and Heiko Guther, the 19 -year -old 2,06m tall gentle giant from Pretoria to represent South Africa at the 2022 World Beach Volleyball Championship in Turkey.

The duo fined-tuned their preparations for the world championship with the vastly knowledgeable coach, Kiruben ‘’KB’’ Naicker at Durban’s New Beach. The team leaves for Turkey on Tuesday 13 September.
