Volleyball South Africa has concluded its 5th Leg of FIVB Homologated Beach Volleyball Tour. The 5th Leg Tour took place at Cape Town, Camps Bay on the 17 and 18 of April 2021. The Tourney which was the last of 5 Cape Town Tours attracted 16 teams on men’s category and 6 teams on women’s category.
The President of Western Cape Union, Mr. Loet Groenewalt alluded that he is very happy to see how the tournaments unfolded even after the COVID-19 break and without sponsors for the tournament. “I was overwhelmed to see SA stars based in Europe coming down to Cape Town and Zimbabwean teams participating in the tournaments,” Loet added. Likewise, the President of Volleyball South Africa, Mr. Anthony Mokoena, commended Western Cape Union for hosting such a magnificent FIVB Homologated Beach Volleyball Tours. Our sincerest gratitude goes to the players who compromised other activities but honoured our Beach Volleyball Tours and the tournaments wouldn’t be the same without players’ attendance, said Anthony Mokoena. In addition, Mokoena encourages all provinces and neighboring countries to be part of this history making tournaments. Most importantly he wished Kwazulu Natal the best of all, as they prepare to host the next FIVB Homologated Beach Volleyball Tours, to begin on the 24th -25th of April 2021 in Durban, New Beach.
The results from the 5th Leg of Cape Town Tour are as follows:
MEN’S SECTION
SEMI-FINAL 1
The partnership of Jerome Fredericks and Leo Williams secured their final spot after outshining Mthokosizi Mndingi and Jonas Mothobi by 2-0 (21-12 and 21-18).
SEMI-FINAL 2
Jamaine Naidoo and Shaien Govender overplayed the partnership of Clinton Stemmet and Lukholo Jooste by 2-0 (21-18 and 21-14).
3RD/4TH PLACE
The duo Mthokosizi Mndingi and Jonas Mothobi walked away with bronze medal after defeating the partnership of Clinton Stemmet and Lukholo Jooste by 2-1 (21-17, 15-21 and 15-7).
FINAL
The well-established alliance of Jerome Fredericks and Leo Williams used their experience to easily emerge victorious on their battle against the partnership of Jamaine Naidoo and Shaien Govender by 2-0 (21-13 and 21-19).
WOMEN’S SECTION
SEMI-FINAL 1
The association of Lianne Fredericks and Chrissy Glossop claimed their final spot after displaying a great performance against their counterparts, the partnership of Luciana Pierangeli and Simone Sittig by 2-1
SEMI-FINAL 2
The cooperation of Aiste Simuntyte and Nina Wiesmeyr reached the finals after winning against their opponents, the partnership of Natasha Strydom and Karina Kinsey by 2-1.
3RD/4TH PLACE
The duo Natasha Strydom and Karina Kinsey attained 3rd position after outscoring the team of Luciana Pierangeli and Simone Sittig 2-0 (21-16 and 21-19)
FINAL
Lianne Fredericks and Chrissy Glossop walked away with the title on the women’s section after a highly contested final against the partnership of Aiste Simuntyte and Nina Wiesmeyr 2-1 (21-18, 19-22 and 15-13).
