VOLLEYBALL SOUTH AFRICA CONCLUDED ITS FOURTH LEG OF FIVB HOMOLOGATED BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOUR

Volleyball South Africa has successfully concluded its Fourth Leg of FIVB Homologated Beach Volleyball Tour which was held on the 10th – 11th April at Cape Town, Camps Bay. The SA Tour was attended by 6 teams on the women’s section and 18 teams on the men’s section. Amazingly, the Tour was honoured by at least 1 team from Zimbabwe.

The President of Volleyball South Africa, Mr. Anthony Mokoena expressed that he wished to see all the Provinces participating in these   National/FIVB Homologated Tours since these tourneys will benefit athletes in future and also improve players’ skills. Meanwhile Mr. Jerome Fredericks, the tournament organiser alluded that he was satisfied by the event’s turnout and the level of competition. “This Tour has definitely attracted lots of local teams and also international teams have shown interest” said Jerome.

The results of the RSA’s Fourth Leg Tour are follows:

MEN’S CATEGORY

 SEMI-FINAL 1

Leo Williams and Mthokozisi Mndingi secured their final spot after defeating the Zimbabwe based partnership of Tawanda Mafuva and Keith Machakaire by 2-0 (21-10 and 21-15)

SEMI-FINAL 2

Jerome Fredericks and Jonas Mothobi reached the finals after winning against Shaien Govender and Danilo von Ludwiger by 2-0 (21-19 and 21-18)

3RD/4TH PLACE

Tawanda Mafuva and Keith Machakaire attained bronze medal after punishing the partnership of Shaien Govender and Danilo von Ludwiger by 2-0 (21-19 and 21-15)

FINALS

Leo Williams and Mthokozisi Mndingi were crowned the champions after winning against Jerome Fredericks and Jonas Mothobi by 2-0 (22-20 and 21-9)

WOMEN’S CATEGORY

SEMI-FINAL 1

Aiste Simuntyte and Nina Wiesmeyr claimed their final spot after overpowering Luciana Pierangeli and Simone Sittig by 2-0 (24-22 and 21-18).

SEMI-FINAL 2

Lianne Vink and Ana Carolina Cunha secured their final spot after outscoring Bejanke Della and Tammy Thomas by 2-0 (21-11 and 21-12).

3RD/4TH PLACE

Luciana Pierangeli and Simone Sittig walked away with bronze medal after outplaying Bejanke Della and Tammy Thomas by 2-0 (21-12 and 21-12).

FINALS

Aiste Simuntyte and Nina Wiesmeyr emerged victorious after vanquishing the partnership of Lianne Vink and Ana Carolina Cunha by 2-0 (21-12 and 21-15)

The next Tour of which is the last leg of Cape Town Tours will take place on the 17-18 April 2021 at Camps Bay.
