MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES FROM VOLLEYBALL SOUTH AFRICA (VSA).

‘’ It is with profound sadness that Volleyball South Africa has learnt of the sudden passing of Gershon Brian Rorich, the most celebrated volleyball star that the country has produced,’’ said VSA President Mr.Anthony Mokoena.

The VSA President joins his Manco, Exco and the South African volleyball fraternity in conveying heartfelt condolences to the late Gershon’s wife, Delisha and daughter, Lindsay, Gershon’s mom, Mrs Rorich and the Rorich family and friends.

We are reminded that it is during these difficult times that a family in bereavement always finds solace and support from extended family members, friends and the community at large, ensuring that the dear
departed is given a farewell befitting of the love and adoration shown by all that knew of the late individual.

To this end the VSA President and the South African volleyball community joins the Rorich family during their time of bereavement.

The President said that he is sure that the Rorich Family is extremely proud of Gershon’s many accomplishments as a key member of the SA National men’s indoor team and the glory of being an Olympian at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games (Beach Volleyball).

We are delighted that Gershon has made his family, the country and the African continent proud of being part of the first African team (with his beach volleyball partner, Colin Pocock) to finish in a creditable 9th
position at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

Like all great sports personalities Gershon chose to retire from volleyball when he was at the ‘’top of his game.’’ At the end of his illustrious career as a ‘’volleyball champion’’ Gershon joined 2 Oceans Academy that promoted beach sports in the country.

Sadly, in a week’s time (7 to 9 April) Gershon, as a member of 2 Oceans Academy, would have played a crucial role in overseeing the management of the Splash Festival Beach Volleyball Championship, the
longest running beach volleyball event in South Africa staged annually in Gqeberha (formerly called Port Elizabeth).

While VSA and the volleyball fraternity mourns the loss of Gershon Rorich, may the Almighty grant the Rorich Family the strength to endure their loss.
