CHAMPIONS CUP 2022 SET TO TAKE OFF IN KZN

The exquisite Riverside Hotel’s conference room In Durban was the venue for the
VSA’s Champions Cup Technical Meeting, which inter alia, focused on drawing up
the fixtures for the NF’s prestigious annual Inter Club Championship for women and
men. The ambience of the venue set the stage for a ‘problem free’ engagement with the
participating teams’ officials.

In his welcome address KZN Volleyball President Aadil Khan expressed his gratitude
to the teams especially from outside the province for making the long journey to KZN
despite social media postings from negative forces of how unsafe the province had
become after the April Floods. Khan applauded these teams for their passion to play
in a national competition. The KZNVB President spoke of hardship they faced during
their preparatory work in getting the Tongaat Sports Centre restored to its original
playing condition.

However, he excited the members as he took them on a ‘’journey’’ of what was in
store for them in the week long tournament. Apart from the prize money on offer to
the top three teams in the competition an added incentive was being invited to join
the dignitaries in a gala dinner that will be held at the Tongaat Sports Centre. In
addition, there will be lots of promotional item giveaways to players and the public.
‘’No one will go home empty handed,’’ said Khan.

“The 2022 Champions Cup hosted in KZN will be the most memorable tournament
that will be etched in the minds of the teams for many years to come,’’ added Khan.
In his address on behalf of the National Federation, VSA Vice President Mike
Makhubela was profuse in his gratitude for the KZNVB President for going the extra
few kilometres in making possible that the Champions Cup, VSA’s flagship
tournament takes place in KZN.

KZN Volleyball’s Secretary Ms.Kruba Jaram took the team officials through the
process of drawing up the fixtures. Within a short space of time the fixtures were
printed and handed to all the team officials.

In the opening fixture of the 2022 Champions Cup men’s draw, defending
champions, Predators of KZN take on fellow KZN team, Paragons from the Ugu
District. In the 2 nd fixture on the opening day, KZN’s Lions one of the strong
contenders for the Champions Cup title take on new comers, Ballers from Cape
Town.
