VERULAM AND DISTRICTS VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION (VDVA) HOSTS SUCCESSFUL MASTERS TOURNAMENT, 13 July.

The well managed  Verulam and Districts Volleyball Association (VDVA) hosted  the VDVA Top 8 Masters Tournament under the auspices of Legends Social Volleyball (LSV) at the Tongaat Sports Centre on Saturday, 13 July.

The widely advertised show piece via social and main stream media made the VDVA Top 8 tournament a ‘must play’ event for the masters category players. It is evident that with several masters and social volleyball events pencilled in on the LSV calendar , players are spoilt for choice as the excitement and fierce competitiveness of those who once dazzled the fans more than two decades ago re-live their past glory days, much to the excitement of fans and family.

Keen to get in on the action for the VDVA Top 8 competition, nine men’s teams and five women’s teams from as far a field as Pietermaritzburg converged on the Tongaat Sports Centre to lock horns for the top prizes on offer.

Local favourites, Liberte squared up against tournament hopefuls, Anglers United, Dolphins, Arena Park, Invaders, LBH, Holmes and Avoca in exciting displays of skill, energy and “a never say die” attitude that had fans glued to their matches.

In the women’s section Sporting Club Meadow, SCM 2, Fairburoz, Tongaat Legends and PmB Legends enjoyed great family support as  attempts were made to over power one another to get to the medal stage.

The eventful day ended with victory for the Tongaat teams as Tongaat Legends defeated neighbours Fairburoz while Liberte triumphed over Anglers. Prize money, medals and floating trophies were on offer to the winners and runners up.

The  annual  Ethekwini Masters Tournament hosted by Ethekwini Volleyball and LSV  takes place at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal’s Westville Campus Sports Centre on 17-18 August.  A media launch will be held on 24 July starting at 6:30 pm at the Liberty Hall on 1356 North Coast Road, Avoca. For further details LSV Vice President,Susan Mudaly can be contacted on  074 375 0855.

“ I have been inundated with requests from teams to register for the glitz event  from  Northern KZN, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and even Gauteng which  will make the Ethekwini Masters Tournament the biggest  masters event in the country,”  added Mudaly.
